Spatial Practices of Postcolonial Governance Workshop

Jutta Weldes attended a workshop entitled ‘Spatial Practices of Postcolonial Governance: Inequalities, Exclusions, and Potentials’ at Cardiff University on 1-2 September 2015. The workshop was organised by Elisa-Wynne Hughes (Politics, Cardiff) and Terri-Anne Teo (Politics, Bristol). We spent two very lively days discussing excellent papers by scholars from across the UK and beyond. Grace Musila (English, Stellenbosch University) joined us from South Africa. Joanne Sharp (Geography, Glasgow) provided the keynote address on postcolonial governance in Nyerere’s Tanzania and Omar Nagati (architect and urban planner, Cairo) delivered a fascinating account of recent ‘Alternative modes of urban governmentality in post-revolution Cairo’.
